Seven Functions of Valves Positions: FILTER, BACKWASH, RINSE, WASTE, CLOSED, RECIRCULATE, WINTER. Filter – Performs standard daily filtration and routine vacuuming processes. Backwash – Cleans the sand bed by reversing the water flow through the filter to remove accumulated debris. Rinse – Following backwashing, directs the water flow to waste in order to flush out residual debris from the system.
